J-School Requirements for Undergrads


Undergraduate Major Requirements are as follows.

30 credits in Journalism (with a maximum of 40 credits*)
Required courses:

JRN 108 Introduction to Mass Media (3)
JRN 200 News Writing and Reporting I (4)
JRN 300 News Writing and Reporting II (4)
or JRN 303 News Graphics (4)
or JRN 306 Broadcast News I (4)

JRN 400 Reporting for Online News (1)
JRN 430 News and the Law (3)

JRN 480 Ethics and the News Media (3)
And a Professional Experience (1-4)

Also required:

One Survey course (choose from JRN 322, 325, 335, 345, 370, 391, 422, 455 or 475)

Two Lab courses, with one at the 400 level (choose from JRN 305, 310, 332, 336, 403, 406, 407, 408, 409, 410, 412, 418, 432, 436 and 438)

Elective JRN credits to reach the minimum of 30 credits.

* Journalism majors may not complete more than 10 additional credits in JRN or courses from other departments in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Majors must also complete at least 65 credits in liberal arts and sciences courses.
